jennie maneri • collected | advisor: fred blumlein |

over the past ten years i have amassed many idiosyncratic collections. these objects are a narrative for the places i have travelled, my interests, and memories. throughout my home, these collections are displayed on shelves and tabletops sparking interesting conversations and an exchange of stories with my friends. this thesis explores systems for collectors to display and share their treasured objects both virtually and physically. jennie received a bfa in art history from savannah college of art & design in 1999. since moving back to new york in 2000, jennie has worked as a graphic designer. she has exhibited at brooklyn designs, icff and currently has her international notebook collection on display at the city reliquary museum in brooklyn. jennie.maneri@gmail.com

ingrid fetell • aesthetics of joy | advisor: fred blumlein |

balloons, polka dots, hula hoops, candy, parades — why do certain things make so many people, regardless of age, gender, or culture, feel happy? what is it about these things that makes us feel joy, not just once but over and over again? aesthetics of joy explores the intersection between design and positive emotion. the project draws on insights from neuroscience and evolutionary psychology to explain the universal, hardwired triggers of joy, and suggest ways that designers can evoke these in their work. these “aesthetics of joy” can be applied to the design of objects, spaces, and experiences to enhance our emotional health and well-being and create more moments of spontaneous delight in the world. ingrid gets her joy from simple pleasures, like sunshine, ice cream, and neuroscience. she has worked as a brand and innovation strategist in new york, dc., and sydney, and received a ba in english / creative writing in 2002 from princeton university. she is currently working on developing aesthetics of joy into a book. ingridfetell@gmail.com www.ingridfetell.com
