when david weinrib* installed hank de ricco’s 27 pole piece on the green area outside of the design center, it took me a while to get used to this new composition & i spoke to him about it (*see his notes about of other sculptural references) . . . it wasn’t until the context changed and the winter snow fell that the rather graphic quality of the piece seem to come to the surface . . . compared with the last image (in autumn colors) the piece appears to be more powerful with the heightened effect of an entire blanket of white surroundings . . .
there’s also a sphere now on campus (inspired by r. buckminster fuller), a joint project between hank di ricco & his foundation three dimensional design students, built in the snow, starting around the middle of december 2008 and finished somewhere, sometime around february 2009, with a lot of snow still on the ground. with the coming of spring’s yellow green tones, the reflective surfaces looked much different, but also very interesting, quite wonderful . . .
